Care Guide

Every TJ Reworks piece is thoughtfully handmade using donated clothing and deadstock fabrics. Because each item is crafted from reclaimed materials, slight variations in texture, colour and wear are part of what makes your piece truly one of a kind.

With the right care, your handmade item can be enjoyed for years to come.

General Care

  • Treat your item with care and avoid overloading bags with excessive weight.
  • Keep away from prolonged exposure to moisture and direct sunlight when not in use.
  • Due to the nature of reclaimed fabrics, gentle handling will help preserve the life of your piece.

Washing Instructions

To help maintain the shape and quality of your item, hand washing is recommended.

  • Hand wash only in cool water with a mild detergent.
  • Do not bleach or use harsh cleaning products.
  • Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
  • Gently reshape while damp and allow to air dry naturally.
  • Do not wring or twist the fabric.

Spot Cleaning

For small marks or everyday dirt:

  • Use a soft cloth or sponge with cool water and a small amount of mild detergent.
  • Gently dab the affected area rather than rubbing vigorously.
  • Allow the item to air dry completely before storing or using again.

Denim Care

Many TJ Reworks products are created using reclaimed denim, which naturally softens and develops character over time.

  • Avoid frequent washing unless necessary.
  • Spot clean where possible.
  • If washing is needed, hand wash in cool water.
  • Some colour transfer may occur with darker denim during the first few uses or washes. Take extra care when wearing or storing alongside light-coloured fabrics.

Hardware Care

If your item includes keyrings, rivets, zips or other metal hardware:

  • Keep hardware dry where possible.
  • Wipe with a soft, dry cloth if it becomes wet.
  • Avoid exposure to salt water, perfumes, cleaning chemicals or other harsh substances, as these may affect the finish over time.

Storage

When your item isn’t being used:

  • Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Avoid placing heavy objects on top of bags to help maintain their shape.
  • If storing for an extended period, lightly fill bags with clean tissue paper or fabric to help them keep their structure.

A Note About Handmade Pieces

Every TJ Reworks creation is individually handmade from reclaimed materials. Small imperfections, signs of the fabric’s previous life and natural variations are all part of the character of your one-of-one piece and are not considered faults.
